A business needs to host its company website. Another needs to run an online store, an inventory application and a customer database, with systems communicating behind the scenes. Both need cloud infrastructure, but their requirements call for different setups.
CL8’s miCloud Infrastructure as a Service platform offers two approaches, both using CL8’s infrastructure without requiring customers to purchase physical servers.
miCloud VPS – A virtual server for a defined task
For businesses that need to host a website, deploy one application or run a standalone system, miCloud VPS provides a virtual private server with a predefined allocation of processing power, memory and storage and an Operating System of your choice.
Customers choose a package to match their requirements and can upgrade to a different plan when they need more capacity. Daily backups with seven restore points are included as standard, while a self-service portal allows customers to manage their server.
miCloud VDC – An environment for connected systems
When several systems need to work together, miCloud VDC gives businesses greater control over how their infrastructure is organised.
A virtual data centre provides a pool of computing, storage and networking resources that customers can allocate across multiple virtual machines. Processing power, memory and storage can be adjusted independently, while private networks, VPN connections and load balancing support more complex configurations.
For the online store in the opening example, this could mean keeping the shop publicly accessible while placing the inventory application and customer database on private networks, with controlled communication between them.
Choosing the right starting point
The decision depends on how the business uses its systems. A VPS can meet a straightforward hosting requirement, while VDC provides more flexibility for connected applications and changing resource needs.
